Learning Instagram

Instagram is hard! Well, for me anyway. I’ve had the app installed on my phone for about a year now, but have ignored it for the most part. My students always ask me if I’m on Instagram, then laugh at me when I tell them no because I can’t figure it out. I tell them I’m too tired to learn another social media platform because they drain me of all my energy. Then they laugh at me some more. πŸ˜›

Anyhow, I’m posting about Instagram because I’d love to hear any tips/tricks/how to even use this thing from all my blogging buddies. Also, please find me if I haven’t been able to find you yet! I think you can search for Patty Nguyen, or my username pknnguyen. Can you believe nearly every user name variation of Patty Nguyen has already been taken??? UGH. This is what happens when you’re late to the party. Apparently all the other Patty Nguyens in the world have beat me to the punch. Ah well.

So anyhow, please help!

Now here’s my first post after I Googled “how to use instagram” and “how to use hashtags”. πŸ˜€

  1. Ah so cute, Ngan and I are “in” your screen shot. To tell you the truth I just invent my hashtags… I don’t think theres any mayor science behind it, though maybe there is for the geeky programmers behind Instagram πŸ˜‰

  2. I love using instagram, use hashtags effectively and it will help you gain a wider audience and more followers. Good examples are the location, ‘instamania’, ‘blogging’ etc. and of course key words describing the picture. You can use the ‘explore’ and ‘search’ sections to find profiles just like yours and find common interests. Hope this helped, have fun with it πŸ™‚

  3. everyone gives me crap because i’m “not on instagram and i’m a fotographer!” but i am with you – social media just drains me. i left facebook a year and a half ago and i haven’t looked back. i admit i feel a little disconnected sometimes, but i am generally happier not feeling like i have to “keep up” with stuff all the time…

    • Yes, it feels like a part time job! I don’t always have the time or energy. But it’s also fun so I do it in moderation! πŸ™‚

  4. Haha you little devil! Now, I just fed your cupcakes to my parents, I roused them out of bed and they were on a beautiful plate with some plums and tea. They were delighted!!!!

  5. Can’t help you at all, Patty. I’m not on Instagram, for the same reasons you avoided it until now. :-/
But I couldn’t NOT comment on the lovely photo of you and Sue…lovely! ❀

  6. Yay, so glad to see you joining the IG party! I have no tips or tricks for you because I tend to ignore the usual conventions and hashtags (eg I really don’t like the term “foodporn” and will not use that as a hashtag). If you post recipes, mention the link in your profile so people can find them. That’s all I know. πŸ™‚

  7. I’m on instagram but can’t really figure it out, the few things I have posted were me just getting lucky. One day I will figure it out and I will follow you if I can figure out how to do that!

  8. I am in the same boat as Suzanne an Ngan; not on board myself. I have also had the app on my phone for over a year and not used it yet. Maybe I will take inspiration from you and figure it out.

  9. Exact same experience with Instagram. I got it a couple of years ago and just haven’t bothered to use it. My kids tells me it’s because I’m an old man. (lol)

  10. I get a kick out of making up hashtags. For me, its much easier on Instagram than on Twitter. I still don’t get tweeting but I love me some Instagram! I can get sucked in to strangers accounts, clicking one hashtag and then another. Cheap thrills. =)

  11. It’s so funny that many are saying that they have a similar experience with Instagram as you have…I am the same way! I have Instagram but haven’t used it much after putting up some pics the first week I opened the account. Perhaps I will get back to it now that you’ve reminded me of it. πŸ˜‰

I just added you!!! I am SOOO not good with Instagram either, I’ve tried to use it a few times and then I just give up, I don’t know why… I guess because I already put pics up on Facebook and Twitter… so I figure, really? Another one? I’ll try to be better, you’ve inspired me! πŸ™‚

  13. I think Instagram is quite easier than WP! So sistah if you can do WP you got this. Simple: take a photo, rather via IG or your phone– I find it easier to use the camera on your phone and then import it into IG. Edit what you want until your liking and then post. Other helpful tips: 1) Leave comments for others on another IG page? You hold onto the name and it will automatically go into the comment box then type your comment. If you do not tag the person they will not know you were trying to message them. 2) Delete a post: go to the (…) option and tap on it. It will let you share, delete, and so forth. 2) delete a comment? Click on comment then slide the comment you want to delete to the left… A trash icon should show up and then you can delete! Let me know if you need anything else! I think I have mastered it. πŸ™‚ glad you are in IG bc it is in another level of social media! You can also share to your FB, twitter, Flickr and so forth! You can do that before posting and after posting.

  14. I still haven’t been able to figure out instagram myself yet! A friend had to help me set up an account and showed me the basics about a year ago, but I just don’t seem to have the time to do much with it. I’m not even sure what my user name is! πŸ˜€

  15. All we know is that we are on IG..just don’t remember anything about it. We’ve kept away from it for the exact same reasons as yours! :/ Kudos to you! Hopefully you’ll encourage us to get there soon?

  16. Because, and only because, you’re promising to post lots of photos of Bailey I’ll give IG another chance πŸ˜›

You’ll figure it out, just like everything else πŸ˜‰ I’ll have to find you on IG now!

Please tell me what you think!
